Log Files

Like pretty much every website out there we keep log files and that's normal — it's standard practice for hosting providers and site analytics and it helps us understand what's going on. The logs record stuff like your IP address, browser type, internet service provider, date and time of your visit, which pages brought you here and which ones you left from, plus click activity. We use this to understand traffic patterns and manage the site and see how people move through it. The data never includes anything that could personally identify you and we don't want that anyway.

Cookies & Data

We use cookies because they make the site work better for you — they're tiny files stored on your device that let us recognise returning visitors so you don't have to log in every single time and they also help us figure out what content you're into so we can improve things going forward. Cookies alone don't identify you personally and we only get personal information when you choose to give it to us, like when you subscribe to our newsletter with your email address.

Newsletter

If you want to stay in the loop we run a newsletter through MailChimp and it's completely up to you whether you sign up. When you do you'll enter your email in our subscription form and confirm it with a double opt-in and we never pass your email address to third parties because that's not our style.

Comments

When you leave a comment we record your IP address and browser info so we can catch spam and we also send an anonymised version of your email address — what they call a "hash" — to Gravatar to check if you've got a profile there. If your comment gets approved your Gravatar picture shows up with it.

Protecting Your Information

We take reasonable security measures to stop your personal information being accessed without authorisation or altered or disclosed or lost because that stuff matters.

Your Rights Over Your Data

If you've created an account or left comments on our site you can request a copy of the personal data we have on file. This doesn't include information we're legally required to keep for administrative purposes because the law's the law.

Changes to This Policy

We might update this Privacy Policy from time to time — usually just small adjustments — so check back occasionally. If you keep using the site after changes are made that means you're agreeing to the new terms.
